Summer is one of the best times for experimenting with hair. Those who usually leave their hair in an unfussy down ‘do often find themselves putting it up once the temperatures rise, while others prefer to embrace the summer by getting some highlights and opting for beachy waves. Whichever ever camp you’re in, we bet you’ll want to follow the trends.
So what are this summer’s hottest hair trends?
Buns
An oldie but goodie, buns are almost effortless. The perfect style if you’re on second day hair (or even more) as the hair will be more likely to stay in place all day. You can go for a messy bun with layers pulled out – or go for the ballerina look and create a tidy style that goes from day to night.
Half up
Every girl’s favourite retro look, the half-up, half-down ‘do is back! Seen on the catwalks, this style is perfect of you’re in a hurry and don’t have time to make your front layers look right. Simply grab a bobble or small band, section the top of the hair off, and tie it in place. You can even combine it with the bun look and create a messy, high, half bun!
Effortless texture
Of course there had to be an ‘undone’ look in here somewhere. The undone look for some is easy to create, while others – namely fine, straight haired girls – often struggle with this. However the key to rocking this look is to use a good texturing spray when it’s wet and leave it to air dry, scrunching it from time to time. If you’re going for day after hair, try using some dry shampoo a create a bit of volume and run your fingers through it – instead of using a brush.
Braids
Enjoying somewhat of a resurgence of late, braids are no longer reserved for carefree hippies; you can rock a braid in any setting this summer. Quick and easy (if you know how), braids complement any kind of outfit, adding a sleek, elegant touch to a formal frock when pulled tightly. While for lazy day outfits, like shorts and a cute tee, they will look super when topped off with loose braids.
Geometric cuts
Although many of the above looks require long hair, if you’re looking to go that extra mile, why not think about getting a geometric cut? Popular in the 1980s, these types of hairstyles are back and rocked the S/S 2017 runways. Complemented with bright eyeshadow and earrings, these cuts are certain to make a statement. Be warned however, if you’re going from long hair to a shorter, geo-crop, you’ll probably need to allow a bit of extra time in the morning to style it!
